A whole new process for me. No paintbrushes at all. Just palette knives moving the paint across the canvas. Pushing and pulling and trying to create something without trying too hard. With these works I am constantly chasing “the flow” and attempting to just let things happen…and then suddenly there’s a jawline or an eye socket and then you push just a bit further and sometimes you push too far and you have to walk away and find that flow all over again.
I painted the 3 New Lover paintings all at the same time. Each one independently developing its own personality, but each of them absolutely demanding some gold foil! Portraits of lovers deserve some gold.
